Kidnapped four-year-old albino boy found dead in Burundi

MADRID, Jan. 31 (Royals Blue) –

The body of a four-year-old albino boy who was kidnapped on Saturday has been found a day after he disappeared in the east of the African country.

The remains of the boy, named Igiraneza Abdoul, were found by a security guard in some bushes. Abdoul was playing with another child in Muramvya district when he was picked up by a man in a taxi.

His mother, Kwizera Marie Godeberte, told the BBC’s Great Lakes delegation on Monday that when the taxi arrived “he put all the children up”, but when they got out of the vehicle, Abdoul remained inside.

“It was around 7:30 p.m. (local time) on Saturday. We searched everywhere and posted an alert on social media. But to no avail,” the woman lamented.

Three motorcycle taxi drivers have been arrested in relation to the event. Another suspect has fled and authorities are still searching for him.

The organization Albinos Sin Fronteras, which is dedicated to promoting the well-being of people born with this condition, has declared itself “shocked” by the murder, on the 28th of an albino in Burundi since 2008.

Sorcerers claim that some parts of albinos’ bodies bring luck in love, life or business. Many African countries marginalize albinos, treating them as unlucky or accusing them of being involved in sorcery.
