Upon its highly anticipated announcement last year, Dragon’s Dogma 2 immediately jumped to the top of many people’s most anticipated lists, and at the recent PlayStation Showcase, Capcom offered a first look at the gameplay of the upcoming action-RPG. Afterwards, new details were also made available via the game’s official website.
For starters, it has been confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be an exclusively single-player game, just like its predecessor. Capcom describes it as “a single-player, story-driven” game and also confirms that, as expected, players will be able to customize their experience in various ways, including “the appearance of their Arisen, their calling, their group, how they approach different situations, and more.”
Despite being a single-player experience, Capcom says players will feel “like they’re being accompanied by other players” during their own adventure. That, of course, is due to the Pawns system, which fans of the original game will be familiar with. For those unfamiliar with it, Capcom describes Pawns as “mysterious, supernatural creatures dedicated to serving the Arisen” and controlled by artificial intelligence, with their character “uniquely determined by the player.”
Meanwhile, other confirmed details include the introduction of Beastren, a new beast-like race, in addition to both new and familiar monsters and enemies. Players will also be able to use swords, bows and magic, while different vocations will grant various abilities. The story begins in an underground prison, and after the titular Dragon takes your heart (as in the first game), it will focus on the race to “kill the Dragon and claim the throne.”
Moreover, Capcom also states that the game will feature “the latest graphics, AI and physics technology,” which together will create a “truly immersive fantasy world.” It was previously confirmed that the game will be built on the company’s internal RE Engine. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is being developed for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. It does not yet have a release date.
