New format for the League of Legends NACL

Riot Games has presented the new image of the North American Challenger League (NACL)the second North American League of Legends division.

By summer 2023, the competition will feature 10 teams competing for $100,000 in prize money. In addition to returning teams, such as some LCS academies, the league will also feature the League of Legends debut of creator-run esports organization Disguised (DSG).

DSG, owned by popular content creator Jeremy “Disguised Toast” Wang, previously had only a VALORANT team competing in the VCT North American Challengers League.

The mid-season changes to the NACL, which include a new format and revenue sharing, follow recent controversial rule changes that allowed LCS organizations to opt out of fielding an academy.

Of the 10 LCS teams, only three have decided to continue to have academy teams = in this NACL division: Evil Geniuses, FlyQuest and Team Liquid.

The rule change has led to the LCS Players Association (LCSPA). to ask its members to vote on a strike.

The NACL summer split will consist of a six-week regular season and a two-round playoff bracket. The finals will take place offline at the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles.

Riot Games, in conjunction with esports company. Rally Crywill also implement revenue sharing among NACL partners for all participants. No further details on the revenue sharing model have been disclosed.

The full list of participants is as follows: AOE Gold, Cincinnati Fear, Disguised, Evil Geniuses Challengers, FlyQuest Challengers, Maryville University, Supernova, Team Fish Taco, Team Liquid Honda Challengers and Wildcard. In the NACL there will be relegations, and the bottom two teams will have to compete in the promotion tournament to re-enter.
