Kansas City, Mo. – After a 1 hour and 35 minute rain delay, Ace Ventura (with the win now 9-7) not only took the mound, but he owned it. He struck out a career high 11 batters (9 via curveball) in just 6 innings while walking 4 and allowing only 2 hits as the Royals got back in the win column 5-3 over the Baltimore Orioles Thursday afternoon in front of 31,155 screaming fans.

The first inning looked as though it may be a sign of an up and down day for Ventura. He walked two hitters but also struck out the side around them. After that rocky start, he’d only walk 2 more and was in control throughout.

Over his last 4 starts he is 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA while striking out 32 in 25 innings. For the O’s, starter Chris Tillman (9-9 with the loss) allowed 4 runs on 9 hits over 6 innings, including a solo home run to Paolo Orlando in the 6th.

Offensively things seemingly ran through Mike Moustakas as he was 3-4 with 2 singles and a double, knocking in 2 runs and scoring the first run himself. Moose now has an 8 game hitting streak. Also with a now 8 game hitting streak is Alex Rios who was also 3-4 and finished only a home run shy of the cycle.

Lorenzo Cain was given the day off as was Eric Hosmer until he pinch ran for Kendrys Morales and then scored on a single by Moustakas. For the Orioles, Adam Jones was removed after crashing into the left center field fence and sustaining an undisclosed injury.

Ryan Flaherty of the O’s did hit his 2nd home run in as many games (in the 7th off Kelvin Herrera) and the Orioles did manage 2 runs in the 9th off closer Greg Holland as for the 20th time this year “HDH” finished off the game. The Royals record in those 20 games? 20-0.

The Royals won the game in 2 hours and 46 minutes and won the series and the home stand 3 games to 1. The Royals will now head to Tampa and send Edinson Volquez (11-7, 3.40 ERA) against the Rays’ Erasmo Ramirez (10-4, 3.66 ERA) at 6:10 pm tomorrow night.
