Xiaomi Pad Pro 5 12.4″ competes with iPad Pro and Galaxy Tab S8 at a lower price

Xiaomi had a big launch last week in China, offering both a new foldable screen smartphone in the form of the MIX Fold 2 and a budget flagship, the Redmi K50 Ultra. But the company is also looking to offer competitive products in the Android tablet market, announcing the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4″, equipped with competitive hardware in the high-end area. The advantage in the market over the iPad Pro or Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 is the significantly lower price.

Xiaomi Pad Pro 5 12.4″ comes with high-end specs

As the name of the tablet suggests, we’re talking about a large-screen 12.4″ model. The tablet uses an LCD panel, with 500 nits brightness and QHD resolution in 16:10 format: 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. The screen supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision formats and displays images at 120 Hz.

The internal configuration is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset, along with 6, 8 or 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128, 256 or 512 GB of internal storage. The tablet also comes with a very large capacity 10,000 mAh battery, which should provide two days of battery life. Charging, however, is very fast for a product in this category: 36 minutes for 60% and 100% in 68 minutes, thanks to 67W power. With a 6.56mm profile and 620 grams in weight, the Xiaomi Pad Pro 5 12.4″ is one of the largest and heaviest tablets on the market.

Xiaomi has also invested in the tablet’s cameras, with a 20-megapixel Sony IMX596 front-facing sensor on the front, along with a 50-megapixel camera on the back. A depth sensor also appears on the back, but it probably won’t be used by too many users for portrait shots.

Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4 side

Price is the biggest advantage of this model

Being built as a tablet for productivity, Xiaomi has equipped this model with MIUI Pad 13, the tablet version of its proprietary Android interface. At its core we’re still dealing with “standard” Android 12, not the 12L version for tablets and foldables. The Xiaomi Pad Pro 5 also comes with accessory support, with a magnetic connector on the back for attaching a keyboard as well as a magnetic stylus.

Xiaomi lists the Pad Pro 5 12.4″ tablet in China at 3,000 yuan, or about 430 euros, making it not much more expensive than an iPad 9 in its base version. Given that other Xiaomi Pad models from the past few years have also arrived in Europe, we can expect to see the new model in the region’s retail stores.
