The official trailer for the upcoming animated horror comedy Wendell & Wild has been released, and along with it the return of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele has been revealed.
Wendell & Wild is, after all, Henry Selick’s first feature film since Coraline, and the screenplay will be based on an as-yet unpublished book of the same name as the animation in question.
Six years after their last collaboration, Key and Peele star together again, in Wendell & Wild. The stop-motion animated film’s new trailer blends horror and comedy and is set to be released on Netflix soon.
Basically, the footage gives fans some insight into the adventures of the two “crafty” brothers, with emphasis on the chaos that can ensue when the two decide to make a deal with Kat, a teenage girl with a troubled past.
Wendell & Wild combines humor with horror
With a fairly dark premise, but humorous at the same time, the film allows Peele to more ably showcase his talents. In other words, in Wendell & Wild, Jordan Peele gets a chance to build his resume across genres and use his skills as an actor and screenwriter to highlight the connection between horror and comedy. It’s safe to say, judging by the trailer you can see below, that Tim Burton will be hiccupping long and hard.
Wendell & Wild had its world premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year and received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike.
The film is set to be released in select theaters beginning October 21, 2022, ahead of its Netflix release on October 28, 2022.
Of course, it remains to be seen if Wendell & Wild will appeal to fans, since their tastes have proven to be surprising lately, especially when it comes to Netflix customers.
