Pixel Fold, Google’s first foldable phone, could be released before the end of this year

Known so far only from rumors, the first Pixel Fold phone seems to be in an advanced stage of preparation, Google already selecting the type of screen used, aiming for a launch sometime in the quarter Q4-2022.

News of the resumption of Pixel Fold development comes after Google vendors in November 2021 indicated that the American giant would have canceled the first version of Pixel Fold without ever seeing the light of day, on the grounds that the device created is not competitive enough with Samsung products. . Seeming to confirm speculation, an alleged Pixel Fold prototype would have appeared in January 2022 in the Geekbench catalog. The alleged prototype device appeared to use the same Google Tensor processor found on the Pixel 6 / Pixel 6 Pro phones, respectively a CPU with two high-performance cores set to 2.8GHz, two more mid-level cores with a frequency of 2.25GHz and four optimized cores for efficiency, running at 1.8GHz. The configuration was completed with 12GB of RAM, the phone appearing in both 256GB and 512GB internal storage.

In the meantime, at the official launch event, I only got acquainted with the Pixel 6 versions without a foldable screen, without anything indicating any change of plans from Google.

Starting with fresh forces, Google engineers seem to have already reached a new design, but also a launch schedule, the production of the new Pixel Fold version will start in July-September, preparing an official launch no later than December.

According to speculation so far, Google would place the first Pixel Fold model considerably below the price of rivals in the Galaxy Fold series, the basic equipment costing up to $ 400 less, respectively $ 1400 in the offers of US stores. The phone is expected to feature a 7.6-inch foldable main screen and an improved version of the Google Tensor chipset. There is even a possible name: Pixel Notepad, selected to avoid any confusion with the Galaxy Fold series of phones.
