Oppo announces Reno8 series in China with OLED screens and MariSilicon X co-processor

The Oppo Reno8 series has finally been announced in China. It benefits from three models, and their design is not at all similar to previous leaks, which suggested that the phone will be similar to the new OnePlus 10 Pro. The new series adopts straight edges, similar to those on the iPhone and a camera module rather similar to the large Samsung Galaxy S21 / S22 models, which extend towards the edges. A premiere of this series is that one of the models is equipped with the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, announced just a few days ago.

Oppo Reno8 Pro + is very close to the Find X5 Pro flagship

Oppo Reno 8 Pro + is the top version of the new series of smartphones. It is equipped with a 6.7 ”OLED display at 120 Hz and a new processor, which I have not seen outside of China: Dimensity 8100 Max from MediaTek, which debuted on OnePlus 10R, a cheaper variant of the flagship 10 Pro. It uses up to 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage and uses a camera system not far from that of the Find X5 Pro.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro +

We are talking about the same Sony IMX766 main sensor of 50 mgapixels, an ultra-wide 8 megapixel camera and a 2 megapixel macro. It seems that even the MariSilicon X image processor has made the transition from flagship to this premium mid-range. It promises to reduce image noise and better performance in night shooting. Another novelty for the Reno 8 series on the Pro + version is the 32 megapixel front camera with autofocus. This model has a 4,500 mAh battery with 80W charging and starts at a price of 3,699 yuan, or 515 euros. The top model will cost about 560 euros in China (3,999 yuan).

Reno8 Pro is the first phone announced with Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

The Oppo Reno8 Pro retains its exterior design, but comes with changes to its internal hardware. Thus, it is equipped with a slightly smaller screen, 6.62 ”, but it is also a 120 Hz OLED. The front camera is moved from the center to the corner, but no longer includes focus. Also, the processor used here is the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, and the proprietary image processor is also present. The rear camera system appears to be identical.

This model will start at 2,999 yuan, which is around 420 euros for the 8 + 128 GB variant.

The base model of the series is similar to the OnePlus Nord 2T

Finally, the “standard” Oppo Reno8 will benefit from a configuration similar to that of the OnePlus Nord 2T. We are talking about a phone with a 6.43 ”OLED screen with a refresh rate at 90 Hz, a Dimensity 1300 processor and a 4,500 mAh battery with a charge of 80W. This model also uses a 50 + 2 + 2 camera system (wide, monochrome, macro) and configurations with 8 + 128 GB and 12 + 256 GB.
