Lopetegui: “The second yellow against Camavinga is absolutely clear”

MADRID, 18 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Sevilla FC coach, Julen Lopetegui, acknowledged a “negative assessment” after the defeat (2-3) against Real Madrid this Sunday at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, where he also made it clear that the white team should have started the second half with 10 players for a second “very clear” yellow card from Camavinga.

“The assessment is negative, we have lost a game that we wanted to win. In the second half we have not given continuity to everything we have done in the first. We have executed the game plan in the first half, until the final 10 minutes that started to burn the ball,” he said at a press conference.

“We have had to make forced changes, but aside from that we have lacked peace of mind, having the ball. The base has been losing the ball in the second half and they have punished us deservedly, the culprit is the coach”, added in his assessment.

The coach of the Andalusians was asked by the referee in a game with a lot of controversy and complaints from both teams. The locals protested above all a possible second yellow to Camavinga shortly before the break. “I prefer not to talk about the referee today because I will surely regret it if I say what I think,” he said.

“The second yellow is not that it was clear, it is that it is absolutely clear, it does not touch the ball. It is very clear, but it has not happened like that, when in doubt this year we are not having luck, our direct rivals, yes. The second half a team had having started with 10, no one can doubt that,” he added.

On the other hand, Lopetegui insisted that Sevilla should have given more in the second half. “To beat Madrid you have to play football well and we could have done a little more. The team had to have had more calm, character, and it’s about having the ball, we lost it very quickly. The inertia of the game has led to his comeback,” he said.

“The view has been the same since the season began, to be able to be in the Champions League, it’s about winning games, what’s left are finals,” he finished, recalling the goal of finishing in the top four and playing in the next Liga de Champions.
