Bagnaia beats Quartararo with a record pole in Jerez

Aleix Espargaró will start third in Jerez

MADRID, 30 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

Italian rider Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) took pole this Saturday for the MotoGP race of the Spanish Grand Prix, the sixth round of the Motorcycle World Championship, after beating the absolute track record at the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit, while the French Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), leader of the championship, and the Spanish Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) will accompany him in the front row.

A spectacular time of 1:36.170 earned ‘Pecco’, who already warned being the fastest in recent free practice, to become the fifth different ‘poleman’ of the course, all after snatching the privileged position by almost half a second in the last minutes of the session to the pilot from Nice.

The oldest of the Espargaró, third a week ago in Portimao, maintains the good feeling of his Aprilia and will start from the front row of the grid, while the Australian Jack Miller (Ducati), the eighth champion Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda), recovered of the double crash on Friday, and Frenchman Johann Zarco (Ducati) will make up the second row.

Joan Mir (Suzuki) will try to make up for his abandonment in Portugal starting from ninth place, ahead of Jorge Martín (Ducati), and with Maverick Viñales (Aprilia) twelfth.

Among those who did not advance from Q1, Pol Espargaró will start thirteenth, sharing the line with the second in the championship tied on points with ‘El Diablo’, Àlex Rins (Suzuki), fourteenth, and Àlex Márquez (Honda) will start twenty-second.
