Biden approves Missouri flood disaster declaration

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has approved this Monday the request of the state of Missouri to declare disaster in response to the heavy floods that took place in late July in the region.

This action makes federal funds available to the Midwestern state available to those affected in St. Louis, St. Charles and Independent St. Louis City counties, the White House said in a statement.

Residents who are eligible for assistance will be able to access temporary housing, home repairs or even funds to cover some health-related expenses.

Federal funds will also be available to state and local governments, as well as certain private nonprofit organizations, on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by severe storms.

Heavy flooding resulted in at least two people losing their lives and dozens of others having to be rescued.
