Your Kindle screen has suddenly frozen and the device no longer responds at all? Don’t worry, this problem is annoying but it does occur from time to time and can often be caused by outdated software or a weak battery.
In many cases, however, this problem can be solved quickly and easily without you having to go without your device for long. We will guide you step by step through the solutions so that you can use your Kindle without any problems again. We will also give you tips on how to avoid such problems in the future.
What to do if the Kindle stops responding?
With the Amazon Kindle, the classic restart is often the quickest and best solution if the device freezes. To do this, proceed as follows:
- To restart the device, press and hold the Power button until either a dialog box with power-off options appears or the screen turns off on its own.
- Do not release the button, but hold it down for another 40 seconds. Then you can release the button. After a few seconds, the indicator light will turn on again and your device will restart automatically.
If a restart is not enough, you can also reset your Kindle to factory settings. Please note, however, that this so-called hard reset should only be performed in an emergency, as it will delete all data on your eReader.
Why does Kindle freeze?
One of the most common causes of Kindle screen freezing can actually be the battery condition. If your Kindle reader’s battery is almost completely drained, the device will not go into sleep mode, but the screen may freeze because the battery is simply too weak to sustain normal operation.
If this is the case, we recommend connecting your Kindle to the charger for at least ten minutes and then trying to restart it.
If the battery is not the cause, it may also be due to a software error. In such a case, you will need to reset the Kindle using the correct steps to fix the problem and get the device working again.
