Universal has released the official trailer for Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s latest film to serve as a biopic for J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Nolan, known for Inception and Tenet, also wrote the screenplay for Oppenheimer, based on the original biography written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, called American Prometheus.
The Oppenheimer cast includes Cillian Murphy (known to audiences for his role in Peaky Blinders) in the title role, as well as other well-known actors such as Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, Kenneth Branagh and Gary Oldman.
Filming began in January in New Mexico and lasted four months, wrapping in May.
The latest trailer shows interesting details from the Oppenheimer film
Universal Pictures has unveiled the official trailer for Oppenheimer. Along with color footage of what is presumably an exploding atomic bomb, the trailer also includes black and white footage of the main character, played by Murphy, all of which gives a sense of what will be a very different visual palette for the director.
This teaser trailer for the film is one that some moviegoers have seen before, when it premiered in theaters last week in conjunction with screenings of Jordan Peele’s Nope.
The audio laid over the montage of images provokes tension, which Nolan obviously intended, to underscore the legacy of Oppenheimer, whom we’ve often seen labeled “the father of the atom bomb.” Exactly how the story will be told remains in question.
The only thing that is clear, so far, is that this film will be unlike any other Nolan has made, especially since the director is making his first foray into the biopic genre.
In case you can’t wait to see the film, find out that Oppenheimer will be officially released on July 21, 2023, in theaters worldwide.
