MADRID, 16 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, has assured this Friday that the questionnaire for Ukraine to receive the status of a candidate to join the European Union is “almost complete”.

This was stated by the Ukrainian president in a message addressed to the nation, where he explained that the questionnaire received by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on April 8, will soon be ready.

“Today we are talking with the officials about the work to complete the questionnaire (…) This is a necessary stage in the preparation of our State to acquire the status of a candidate for membership of the European Union, the work is almost finished, and soon We will give answers to the representatives of the European Union,” the president said.

During her trip to kyiv last week, the president of the European Commission promised to speed up Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. “We are going to accelerate this process as much as we can, while guaranteeing that all the conditions are respected,” assured Von der Leyen after handing the Ukrainian president the accession questionnaire.

Such a document, which is the centerpiece of the opinion prepared by the European Executive to give its opinion on the options of a candidate country to access the community club, would allow Ukraine to become a candidate for membership of the European Union in June 2022, as and how they expect it to be from the Ukrainian Executive.

On the other hand, Zelensky’s diplomatic adviser and head of European integration, Igor Zhovkva, explained on Monday that Ukraine’s entry into the Union will take place “in the coming years”, although not all members are prepared for the decision.

“Unfortunately, not all countries think the same way, but we can safely say that no EU country is against it. And each country has a positive trend regarding the attitude towards Ukraine’s accession. Although the speed of this trend is slightly different,” Zhovkva explained.
