The United States orders its non-essential diplomatic personnel to leave Ukraine

MADRID, Feb. 12 (Royals Blue) –

The United States Department of State has ordered this Saturday the non-essential employees of its Embassy in Ukraine to leave the country in the face of a possible “significant military action”, in full international tension due to the accumulation of Russian troops on the border.

The Government thus orders, according to a statement collected on the Department’s travel advisory page, “the departure of most US employees hired directly under the Kiev Embassy due to the continued threat of Russian military action.”

Likewise, the State Department will suspend the consular services of the US Embassy in the capital as of tomorrow, Sunday.

“Despite the reduction in diplomatic staff, the Embassy’s core team, our dedicated Ukrainian colleagues, and American staff around the world will continue their relentless diplomatic and assistance efforts in defense of the security, democracy, and prosperity of Ukraine”, added the Embassy in Kiev on its Twitter account.

The alert further states that “US citizens should not travel to Ukraine,” and those there “should depart immediately using available commercial or other private transportation options.”
