MADRID, 14 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Ukrainian Justice has seized this Thursday a total of 154 assets owned by the leader of the pro-Russian Ukrainian party Opposition Platform for Life, Viktor Medvedchuk, who was arrested on Tuesday in the European country.
As reported by the State Investigation Office, a court in Lichakiv has seized, among other things, 26 vehicles, 30 plots of land, 23 houses, 32 apartments, 17 parking spaces and a motor yacht also owned by his wife, Oksana. Marchenko.
In addition, the Ukrinform news agency has collected, the Ukrainian Justice has confiscated shares of 25 companies whose beneficiaries are Medvedchuk or Marchenko. Investigators and prosecutors from previous cases had already seized a yacht owned by Medvedchuk and other real estate owned by the politician.
Medvedchuk has been in detention since Tuesday. An ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, he was under house arrest for more than a year accused of treason. However, in late February, shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it was announced that he had escaped.
The president, Volodimir Zelenski, published on social networks a photograph in which he appears handcuffed. Ukrainian authorities confirmed that Medvedchuk was wearing Ukrainian military clothing to hide among the national forces.
In this context, the president, who described his capture as “symbolic”, proposed to Moscow to exchange him for child prisoners of war who are in Russian captivity.
