Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown needs a constant Internet connection – That’s Gaming

Publisher Nacon and developer KT Racing have often described the upcoming open-world racer Test Drive Unlimited as a shared-world multiplayer experience similar to Forza Horizon and The Crew, so it is no surprise that it has now been confirmed that the game requires constant Internet connectivity.

The same was confirmed by Nacon in a recently issued press release that accompanied the game’s recent gameplay trailer. Caught by Push Square, Nacon states in the press release that because of the game’s many social features and the way they are incorporated into the design, the game will not be playable offline.

“While driving, you will always have other players around you, creating a living, breathing city,” reads the press release. “In Test Drive Unlimited, this love of cars is also experienced in the social aspect of dealerships and workshops where you can talk about your next purchase, the car of your dreams, and how you will modify or upgrade it.

“For several reasons, these social features require an infrastructure constantly connected to online databases: leaderboards, races, inventories, moderation, live events, anti-cheat measures, and the overall game experience. An Internet connection is therefore required to play Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown.”

Nacon recently showed a new gameplay trailer for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown at its Nacon Connect event, but despite earlier statements that the game would launch before April, a release date has still not been announced, presumably indicating another delay for the open world racer.

Whenever it launches, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
