South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced Thursday. ten projects top ten projects that will take advantage of the continuing boom in “K-culture”. to attract visitors beyond the capital throughout the year.
In collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), the Ministry of Culture has identified 100 tourism events to be held across the country during 2024 under the project called “100 K-Culture Tourism Events“. Activities cover a wide range of topics, from traditional Korean culture and cuisine to contemporary music, art, gaming and media content. They will be actively promoted through Korea tourism offices in 32 countries, as well as during major events such as Frieze Seoul 2024, the ministry said.
The ministry will also operate “K-pop Playground” stores and K-pop dance festivals in multiple cities in Korea, starting in April at KTA’s HiKR Ground publicity center in downtown Seoul. In addition, will host the annual Korea Beauty Festival in June, and esports events in July. The Korea Grand Sale, an annual shopping and sightseeing festival, is currently underway and is scheduled to conclude on February 29.
The Ministry plans to maintain the flow of tourists beyond the summer by implementing the “Korea Wish List” project, which provides financial support to 10,000 foreigners who have purchased a plane ticket to Korea for any cultural activities they wish to pursue in the country. The project was also carried out last year, and its most preferred benefits included free transportation cards, as well as passes to Korean hair and makeup stores and fried chicken joints, which the ministry said it will take into consideration for this year.
The ministry will also invite 30 foreigners to Korea who prove they have special relationships with the country. The project, dubbed “Korea Invites You,” will allow these people to stay in Korea for four nights and provide a customized tour itinerary.
Other projects include “Welcome Week,” through which the government will operate welcome booths at Incheon, Gimpo, Jeju and Gimhae airports; and “K Tourism Promotion,” which will call on some 113 private companies to generate tourism-related products and services.
The Ministry of Culture will work with related organizations and companies to promote the Korea Visit Year 2024 with a systematic strategy. We will also expand the campaign and continue to closely monitor inbound travel rates to Korea.
