Remittances from Mexican emigrants grew 16 percent in the first half of the year

Mexican emigrants sent home a total of 27.565 billion dollars (about 26.888 billion euros) during the first half of the year, 16.6 percent more than in the same period last year, the Bank of Mexico revealed Monday.

98.8 percent of total remittance receipts were made through electronic transfers, while remittances made in cash and kind and ‘money orders’ accounted for 0.9 and 0.3 percent of the total amount, respectively.

The average remittance was US$387, up from US$368 in the same period of 2021.

In June 2022 alone, remittances were $5.153 billion, up 15.6 percent from June 2021, though down 0.83 percent from the previous month.
