Queen Margrethe of Denmark has tested positive for COVID-19 after returning to her country from the United Kingdom, where she had attended the state funeral in honor of Queen Elizabeth II of England, the Danish Royal House reported Wednesday.
The queen, 82, tested positive late Tuesday and is at Fredensborg Palace, one of the official residences of the Danish monarchy. The Royal Household has not clarified whether she has symptoms, although it has confirmed the cancellation of her schedule.
Several of the events planned for the coming days will be taken over by Prince Frederick, first in line to the Danish throne.
Queen Margrethe, now the longest-reigning monarch of all the Royal Houses of Europe, sat in the front row at Elizabeth II’s state funeral, next to her son and just in front of King Philip.
