Pol Espargaró: “We can finally try to fight for the World Cup”

The Spanish MotoGP rider Pol Espargaró (Repsol Honda) celebrated the podium this Sunday at the Qatar Grand Prix, a third place that confirms that “finally” he can “try to fight for the World Championship”, with a new bike on the that feels “strong”.

“We had a good pace during the preseason but I wanted to be careful until the first race. Now I feel strong on the bike and we can finally try to fight for the championship,” he said in statements provided by his team.

Espargaró also valued the good result of Repsol Honda with Marc Márquez fifth. “This result is very good for Honda. The changes made during the winter have worked and all the riders can be fast. If both Marc and I manage to continue fighting for podiums, it will be great”, he stated.

“Everything is new to the bike so we have to figure out how we can improve and discover our true potential. It was a difficult circuit for us but we got a good result,” he added. Espargaró took first place at the start despite starting sixth on the grid and defended his position at the top.

“I didn’t expect to lead after the start. I rode well until I couldn’t use the rear brake due to tire degradation, but I’m very happy with the result,” he concluded.
