OnePlus seems to be keeping up with last year’s releases, officially announcing today a launch event for OnePlus Nord CE 2, “Core Edition”, a more affordable version of OnePlus Nord 2 launched in 2021. As we saw with the original Nord CE, we expect a smartphone with small compromises in certain categories, similar to what Samsung does with the FE series, but in the upper mid-range area, not in the flagship area.
The new OnePlus Nord CE 2 will be launched next week
The launch of the new phone will take place next week, on February 17, and we already know some details about its capabilities from OnePlus. The company has not yet revealed the full design of the OnePlus Nord CE 2, but we can assume that it will look very similar on the outside to the Nord 2. In fact, we already have an image with the camera module, which is similar.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 will benefit from fast charging at 65W, a capability that we also see on flagships, but it will also adopt a 3.5mm headphone jack, something that smartphone users in the mid-range area with safety will appreciate. Moreover, the new model benefits from 5G connectivity and a microSD card slot.
But what we do not know exactly is the hardware configuration and whether the performance of the cameras will be different. Rumors so far suggest the adoption of a Dimensity 900 chipset, a less powerful model than the Dimensity 1200 on the OnePlus Nord 2.
The phone will benefit from a lower starting price than that of the Nord 2. It is expected somewhere in the area of 300-330 euros, a price area frequented by many of the most popular brands in the market. Here, Oppo already offers competitive phones, along with Xiaomi, Vivo, Motorola or Realme. Thus, OnePlus will have to find an element that differentiates Nord CE 2 from the rest of the devices on the market, either in terms of cameras or in terms of performance offered.
