Nothing announces cosmetics-inspired Ear (stick) headphones

The Nothing company has only released two products so far: a pair of headphones and a smartphone. Carl Pei, the company’s founder, wants to create a true ecosystem of devices, but at the moment it doesn’t seem to exist. You’d expect Nothing’s third product to be a piece of the puzzle, but that’s not the case. Nothing is set to announce the Ear Stick, the second generation of earbuds (1), launching in 2021. The headphone box was unveiled at London Fashion Week and appears to be inspired by the design of cosmetics products.

Nothing Ear (stick) appear to be a female-dedicated version of last year’s Ear Ear (1) headphones

The Nothing ear (1) headphones proved to be an instant hit for the company, boasting an out-of-the-ordinary design and good performance for their price. Much the same seems to be true of the Phone (1), which offers iPhone-level finishes and design at a lower price, but also comes with LED light strips on the back cover.

If one of the important features for Nothing products is to look quirky, the Ear (stick) headphones certainly fit the bill. While we haven’t yet seen the final design of the actual earbuds, their box appears to be inspired by a lipstick or small blush box. The casing is made of clear plastic, with white and red elements inside.

The company says these headphones are “a completely new product”, but the truth is we’ve already seen a leak where we could see what the headphones look like on the inside. They have largely the same design as last year’s ear (1). Nothing says that they are molded to sit comfortably in the ears and that they are extremely lightweight. These things were true of the first generation as well.

The Nothing Ear (stick) headphones will be released sometime in the next few months, before the end of the year, and join other models that seem to be dedicated to the female audience. Earlier this year we tested the Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick headphones, which seem to be heading in the same direction, and recently Apple launched a collection of Beats headphones in colours made in partnership with Kim Kardashian.
