Video game developer Garenahas announced that the 2024 edition of the the World Finals Free Fire World Finals will be held in Brazil. Free Fire’s biggest esports tournament moves to South America in November, five years after the first edition, which took place in Rio de Janeiro.
The end-of-season tournament will feature 18 teams competing for a chance to become Free Fire World Series champions. More details about the event will be released in the coming months.
Free Fire is a mobile battle royale-style video game that continues to enjoy great popularity in Asia and South America. The Free Fire World Series Global Finals 2021 is the second most watched esports event in history, with 5.4 million viewers at the tournament’s opening round. Since then, however, the scene’s popularity has waned, with last year’s Global Finals recording a peak of 570,515 viewers.
In December 2023, the Free Fire circuits in Brazil, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Middle East and Africa (MENA) were renamed the World Series in an attempt to standardize the ecosystem and make it easier for fans in different markets to understand.
In January 2024, Garena unveiled the roadmap for the 2024 Free Fire season. In addition, the circuit will feature a mid-season tournament in which the winner will qualify directly to the World Finals.. Outside of the Garena World Series circuit, Free Fire continues to appear in other esports events. In 2023, the title joined the Snapdragon Pro Series operated by ESL FACEIT Group (EFG).
