Hoping to attract as many new subscribers as possible, people who can’t afford to pay the full subscription, Netflix announced a while back that it would introduce an ad-supported version of the service under a slightly more affordable monthly fee.
Although the announcement about the “Basic with Ads” subscription was made some time ago, the specifics of the subscription didn’t come out until as recently as October. Even so, it’s unclear when the new subscription will be available in every corner of the planet and, more importantly, how much it will cost in Romania.
For reference, though, in the U.S., the version of Netflix with ads costs you $7 a month, $3 less, than the previous $10 basic subscription. Given that in Romania the basic subscription is 8 euros, we’re most likely talking about a discount of between 2 and 3 euros for those who want to tolerate ads.
How many ads are in the Netflix subscription with ads
If you decide to subscribe to Netflix in the cheapest version, with ads, you’ll have to endure between 4 and 5 minutes of ads in every hour of a show or movie. The ads can be between 15 and 30 seconds long, you can’t skip them, and they’ll appear both before and during your favourite shows on the popular streaming service.
With Netflix being the service that single-handedly popularized the idea of movies and series without any ads, the adoption of ads is pretty sad news for subscribers. On the other hand, in the context of the current financial crisis and the drop in users over the past year, it should come as no surprise that platform officials have had to embrace a radical decision. In the end, you’ll always be able to jump from a cheaper subscription to a more expensive one, so it’s up to you which direction you want to go or how much you mind the extra 4-5 minutes of viewing.
