Honor announces Pad 8, a 12″ mid-range tablet with an attractive price tag

Chinese brand Honor has announced a new mid-range tablet with a large display: the Honor Pad 8. This new tablet will replace last year’s Honor Pad V7 in the offering, and is equipped with a large 12″ screen, a mid-range chipset from Qualcomm and a compact and lightweight body, making it one of the thin tablets on the market. The price announced for China is also appealing, but it remains to be seen if this will be retained for the eventual European debut.

Honor Pad 8 comes with a big screen and small price

As a mid-range tablet, we wouldn’t expect the Honor Pad 8 to offer a high-end screen, like we see on the Galaxy Tab S8 or iPad Pro. So at 12″ diagonal, an IPS panel with 2000 x 1200 resolution seems to offer plenty of fidelity for a mid-range tablet. It has thin bezels all around the screen, and a 5-megapixel camera is located at the top in landscape mode.

The internal configuration consists of a Snapdragon 680 chipset that can be configured with 4, 6 or 8GB of RAM, but 128GB of internal storage is standard on all three variants. There appears to be no microSD card slot, however. The camera on the back is also a basic 5-megapixel one, most likely intended for document scanning rather than photos or video.

The Honor Pad 8 tablet weighs just 520 grams, quite light for a 12″ model, and measures just 6.9mm in thickness. It doesn’t include a headphone jack, but does offer a USB-C port, which can charge the 7,250 mAh battery to 22.5W via fast charging.

The Honor Pad 8 is currently launching in China, with white, blue and green colour variants, at a starting price of 1,499 yuan (216 eur).
