Catalonia confirms 1,558 cases of monkeypox, 152 more than last week


Catalan health authorities have confirmed a total of 1,558 cases of monkeypox, 152 more than last week. 1,558 cases of monkeypox152 more than the previous week, as reported by the Department of Health.

Since the onset of monkeypox infections last May, the Department of Health has been notified to the Epidemiological Surveillance Network of Catalonia. The lesionswhich can cause complications, have been located in most cases in the genital, anal and oral areas. These lesions can cause scars permanent scarring and complications which, on some occasions, may also require hospitalization.

Until now, the serious complications that have been described are proctitis (inflammation of the lining of the rectum) and ocular involvement, which in some cases have required hospitalizationalthough they have already been discharged.

As for the vaccines administered in Catalonia against this disease, since vaccination began on July 21 until this Wednesday, a total of 1,045 doses390 more than the previous week, always by appointment.

Doctors have warned that people who are a confirmed case or under study is very important that they avoid contact with other people or animals. and should not share objects such as bedding, towels or eating utensils.
