MADRID, Feb. 14 (Royals Blue) –
The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, assured on Monday that the nuclear agreement with Iran, the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan (PIAC), “is in sight”.
“Another important call with the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hosein Amirabdolahian. As coordinator of the PIAC, I deeply believe that the agreement is in sight,” Borrell said on Twitter.
“The time has come to make one last effort and reach a compromise,” added the head of European diplomacy.
Germany, France and the UK, known collectively as the E3, have been mediating, along with Russia and China, between Iran and the US to try to reinstate the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran following the US unilateral abandonment of the pact. . Washington’s ultimate goal is to prevent Iran from developing its own nuclear weapons.
The negotiations in Vienna were interrupted at the end of January this year so that the diplomats could return to their countries and carry out the pertinent consultations. This should be the last stage of the talks.
Washington withdrew from the deal in 2018 under former President Donald Trump and imposed economic sanctions, after which Tehran began producing enriched-grade uranium close to military use.
