The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has appealed to the American people to vote for him in the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate and thus turn abortion rights into law.
“If you give me two more Democratic senators in the Senate, I promise you that we will make abortion rights into law. We will make Roe v. Wade the law in every country. And we will go back to protecting a woman’s right to choose,” the U.S. president said during a Democratic national committee meeting in Washington.
Biden recalled that in 46 days the United States will have to choose if the Republicans win control of Congress and abortion remains banned, while urging the American people, especially women, to turn the election around.
In this regard, the White House tenant has reproached the Republican Party for applauding and embracing “the first Supreme Court decision in which it did not preserve a constitutional freedom, but took it away.”
“Now nearly half the states in the United States have either passed abortion bans or will do so shortly. And, in many states, abortion is already banned even in cases of rape and incest, a fundamental change,” the president said.
“Already, 166 House Republicans have signed on to a bill that would ban abortion nationwide. And South Carolina’s senior senator, Lindsey Graham, has proposed a national ban on abortion with criminal penalties for doctors and that they be jailed if they do, in fact, violate the ban,” he warned.
Biden has therefore called for reflection on the events of recent months, such as the criminalization of abortion on occasions such as incest or rape, even to minors.
The U.S. Supreme Court overturned last June 24 the legal precedent that allowed abortion since 1973. As a result, the vast majority of Republican states have already implemented laws that prohibit abortion in almost all cases.
