Steam Deck was not the first handheld PC on the market, but it was one of the few that came at an acceptable price for a large number of customers. Alternatives in the market usually come at double or even triple prices, despite the fact that they do not necessarily offer better performance. AYN, a Chinese company that recently launched an Android gaming device called Odin, wants to compete directly with Steam Deck with the launch of AYN Loki, a portable gaming PC with an even lower price than the Valve model. .
AYN Loki will start at $ 299 with an Intel Alder Lake processor
In addition to the integration with Steam, the biggest advantage of Steam Deck is the price, which starts at 420 euros. AYN Loki is trying to attack this advantage, promising that the cheapest model of the new series, AYN Loki Mini, will start at a price of 299 US dollars. Of course, this will only be the basic model, as no less than five hardware configurations are planned, with various processors, with more storage space and even in different sizes.
AYN says the cheapest Loki Mini will be equipped with an Intel Alder Lake U processor and will integrate a “standard” GPU for this type of processor. Most likely, we will see an Intel Xe GPU. It will provide 64 GB of internal storage. However, we do not know how much RAM will be available on each model, however.
Top models will use AMD’s CPU and GPU
The “standard” AYN Loki models will instead benefit from AMD Ryzen 5 6600U processors, equipped with the new integrated Radeon 660M GPU. They start at $ 499 in the 64 GB version and increase by $ 100 in price depending on the built-in storage (256 and 512 GB). However, it seems that there will be an M.2 slot for SSD, so users will be able to upgrade their laptop, if they want.
Finally, the Loki Max will come with an AMD Ryzen 7 6800U processor, Radeon 680M GPU and 512 GB storage. This model will cost $ 799.
All will also offer a USB-C port for charging and connecting accessories, a microSD card slot, but also buttons similar to those on the Xbox controller. However, it seems that each model will offer different sizes, probably due to the need for more and more advanced cooling as the performance increases.
Most likely, AYN will launch Loki through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, as it did with the Odin device.
