Aug. 18 () –
At least 16 people have died and about thirty are missing as a result of flash floods in the city of Xining, in central China.
Some 36 people remain missing after heavy rains fell Wednesday night in the mountainous Datong district near this city of Xining, located in Qinghai province, whose authorities have decreed the second-highest alert level of their emergency system.
Heavy downpours have triggered landslides that have blocked roads and diverted rivers, affecting more than 6,000 people in two townships and six villages, CCTV reports.
Authorities have mobilized some 2,000 people, including rescuers, police, paramilitary units, emergency services and government officials, for recovery efforts.
