Apple is also reducing its dependence on China by assembling the iPhone 13 in India

Apple has been expanding its assembly operations outside China for several years. While Foxconn’s factories in China remain important for the manufacture of its most expensive products, the company now has partners in Vietnam, India and assembles certain computers even in the US (Mac Pro models, for example). But India is fast becoming a major pillar of Apple’s business as the company begins to build even the new iPhone 13 models here, its best-selling products.

iPhone 13, now “Made in India”

Apple factories in India have existed since 2017, but were initially used to assemble less complex models. They were launched with the iPhone SE and continued to assemble models a year or two old compared to the latest ones on the market. It seems that both the technological equipment of the factories and the staff have now reached the same level as those in China, and can now assemble here the newest and most complex models of Apple phones.

Apple made the announcement recently, but it seems that the phones that will leave the factory will be destined for the local market. India has high taxes on products imported from China, and Apple products are more expensive than those generally sold in India. Thus, its newest phones reached the market at very high prices. Thus, the iPhone 13 could be sold at a more affordable price to the Indian public.

“We are excited to start production of the iPhone 13, with its attractive design, advanced camera systems for impressive photos and videos, and the incredible performance of the A15 Bionic chip, right here in India, for our local customers.”Apple officials said.

It seems that in 2022, in India, Apple could register a significant increase, mainly due to this movement. India is a very competitive market, where low prices are very important. Sales of 7 million iPhone units are expected during the year, for a market share of 5.5% for Apple.
