All about Rabla 2, the scrapping program for cars older than 15: when it starts, what are the benefits

The Romanian state will start this year, in accordance with the commitments behind the financing through PNRR, a new program to encourage the modernization of the car park on Mioritic lands. Scrap 2 will encourage scrapping of vehicles older than 15 years.

Scrap 2, the new government program to change your car

The first details about this initiative were made public last autumn by the Minister of Environment, Tanczos Barna. He stated several times that the Romanian state should financially support the handover for the purpose of scrapping cars older than 15 years. In exchange for those amounts, the beneficiaries will no longer register or purchase cars as old. Ideally, they will use the money to buy new, less polluting cars.

“In the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan, no.), Romania has committed itself to reducing the number of cars older than 15 years. Until we have a government to take this decision, it would be premature, as interim minister, for me to come up with a solution. My proposal is the same one I have said many times. The state should come to support the delivery of these cars older than 15 years with a certain amount of money. At the same time, make it possible to increase local taxes for old and polluting cars, so that there is not only coercion, but also real support from the Romanian state and a commitment from those who hand over these old cars that they will not buy and they will no longer register vehicles older than 15 years and will use the respective amounts, if they wish, to buy less polluting cars, new ”, Barna Tanczos declared in November 2021.
