A Palestinian woman shot dead by Israeli forces during an alleged attack attempt in the West Bank

MADRID, June 1 (Royals Blue) –

Israeli security forces on Wednesday killed a Palestinian woman who allegedly tried to carry out a knife attack in the surroundings of the Al Arrub refugee camp, located south of the West Bank city of Bethlehem.

The Israeli Army has indicated in a message on its account on the social network Twitter that “a terrorist armed with a knife advanced towards a soldier who was guaranteeing security on Route 60”, before adding that the military “responded by opening fire”.

“There are no victims among our forces. The terrorist has been neutralized,” he stressed, without giving further details. The Palestinian Ministry of Health has indicated that the woman, identified as Ghofran Uarasná, 31, has died after being shot in the chest.

Likewise, the Palestinian Red Crescent has denounced that the Israeli forces present in the area prevented the doctors from approaching Uarasná up to 20 minutes after she was injured, as reported by the Palestinian news agency WAFA.

The incident comes amid an uptick in violence since March, when some 15 people were killed in a series of attacks in Israel, some of them claimed by Islamic State. The Israeli army and security forces have stepped up raids in the West Bank, where more than 30 Palestinians have been killed in operations since late March.
