In the last few years, since phones have become quite similar products in terms of design, smartphone manufacturers have tried to stand out with all sorts of more special covers for the back. Some chose to wear leather phones, and others chose more unusual designs, while some companies flirted with color-changing cases. But those were usually made of plastic or glass, but a Hong Kong-based manufacturer Infinix says it will launch a leather-backed phone that can change color.
Infinix has announced the “Future Light-Paining Leather” technology, which allows you to change the color of your phone
Phones with a leather-covered back cover are quite rare even today, but Infinix says it can develop a phone that benefits from a more special leather back. The company claims that its new material, “Future Light-Paining Leather” uses photochromic polymers, which can change color when exposed to UV light.
Basically, these polymers change their molecular structure, which leads to a change in color. Thus, the color change function is a “passive” one, not an active one, which means that it does not consume current, as we saw on the OnePlus prototype that used photochromic glass to hide the camera.
The company says that users will be able to customize their phone, being able to cover certain areas to create various patterns on the back cover of the phone. Of course, if you use your phone in the sun without a cover, its cover will completely change color. However, the color change process seems to be reversible, as the original color returns when the material is no longer exposed to ultraviolet light.
What we do not know is which will be the first smartphone model from Infinix that will use this technology and when we can expect to see it.
