Liz Truss and Rehman Chishti will also run to succeed Boris Johnson.

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss and Rehman Chishti MP have announced this Sunday their formal candidacy to succeed Boris Johnson as Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party, adding two more names to a crowded race that already has eleven names.

Truss has explained to ‘The Daily Telegraph’ that she will start “lowering taxes from day one” if she becomes prime minister, a post for which she opts as one of the favorites because of her popularity among ‘Tory’ MPs.

Truss has been an MP since 2010, when she began a meteoric career that has led her to one of the most responsible positions in the Government. She is the longest-serving member of the Government with positions in the executives of David Cameron, Theresa May and Boris Johnson.

Immediately after Truss’s announcement, the candidacy of the ‘number two’ of the Foreign Office, Rehman Chishti, has jumped. “For me it’s about aspirational conservatism, fresh ideas, a new team and a new beginning of progress for our great country,” he has noted on Twitter.

Truss and Chishti join Sajid Javid, Jeremy Hunt — former health ministers — Attorney General Suella Braverman, former Treasury Minister Rishi Sunak, former Equalities Minister Kemi Badenoch and House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Tom Tugendhat.

In contrast, one of the frontrunners, Defense Minister Ben Wallace, confirmed Saturday that he will not run. “After careful consideration and discussions with colleagues and family, I have made the decision not to enter the Conservative Party leadership contest,” Wallace made known in a message posted via his Twitter account.
