Author George R.R. Martin has dropped a few hints about his new novel, The Winds Of Winter, the sixth in the A Song Of Ice And Fire saga that formed the basis of the Game of Thrones series.
Martin talked, on his website, about the creative process, but he also gave one more tidbit that may, or may not, be to your liking: “Yes, some of the things you saw on HBO in Game of Thrones you will see in The Winds Of Winter (though perhaps not in a similar way),” wrote George R.R. Martin, in a first instance.
“Another question I get a lot, especially after the Game of Thrones finale, is whether A Song of Ice and Fire will end the same way. An architect could give a short, concise and simple answer to that, but I’m more of a gardener. My stories grow, evolve and change as I write them. In general, I know where I’m going, where I want to go, I know the big set pieces, they’ve been in my head for years… decades, at least in the case of A Song of Ice and Fire. Still, there’s a lot of detail and sometimes the ground shakes beneath my feet as the words pour out,” the author added.
George R.R. Martin. Tyrion is waiting for me.”
Which hints that The Winds of Winter may be far from finished – or not. However, he added: “What I’ve noticed lately is that gardening is taking me further and further away from the TV show. Yes, some of the things you’ve seen on HBO, in Game of Thones, you’ll see in The Winds Of Winter (though maybe not quite in the same ways),” George R.R. Martin also pointed out.
“I can say one thing, in general enough terms that I won’t spoil anything: not all the characters who survived to the end of Game of Thrones will survive to the end of A Song of Ice and Fire, and not all the characters who died in Game of Thrones will die in A Song of Ice and Fire. That’s all I can tell you right now. I have to get back to the garden. Tyrion is waiting for me,” is perhaps the most important detail the author offered, on his website.
