Not only Tesla has problems with cars: the huge number recalled by Mercedes, why

The cars in the ML and GL SUV series and the luxury R-Class minivans are recalled.

Mercedes-Benz is recalling almost one million cars worldwide due to a potential problem that, in rare cases, could cause the brake pedal to disconnect from the brake system.

The German car giant has said it will start contacting affected customers whose vehicles were built between 2004 and 2015.

The cars in the ML and GL SUV series and the R-Class luxury minivans are recalled, with a total of 993,407 vehicles affected, including 70,000 in Germany.

In 2021, the company recalled a similar number of vehicles due to problems with their emergency call systems.

“Corrosion of the brake booster can in the worst case lead to a broken connection between the brake pedal and the braking system,” said the German transport regulatory authority KBA.

Mercedes added that “it could be that a very strong or powerful braking maneuver could cause mechanical damage to the power brakes”.

This is not the first time

“In such a rare case, it would not be possible to decelerate the vehicle through the service brake,” said the Stuttgart-based company. “That would increase the risk of an accident or an accident.”

Recalled vehicles will be inspected and replaced if damaged, Mercedes said.

“Until the inspection, we ask our customers not to drive their vehicles,” they added.

In recent years, the carmaker has had to recall hundreds of thousands of vehicles.

Approximately 774,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Europe used software to pass diesel emissions tests, which required their recall, the German Ministry of Transport said in 2018.

A year earlier, Mercedes had to call 75,000 cars from the UK because of the risk of fire.

The problem was related to a potentially faulty safety of the starter components, which caused the vehicles to overheat.

The risk of fire has caused Mercedes owner Daimler to recall about a million vehicles worldwide.
