Jorge Martín snatches the ‘pole’ from Jack Miller with MotoGP record

MADRID, 9 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Spanish MotoGP rider Jorge Martín (Ducati) achieved pole position this Saturday at the Grand Prix of the Americas after setting the record for the Austin circuit, in an outstanding final stage of Q2 where he was able to snatch the best mark from the Australian Jack Miller.

Martín claimed all the lights the day that Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) showed signs of following his level far away. The Catalan, back after overcoming his injuries, was ninth in a day that stood out for the dominance of Ducati, a team that placed the first five bikes on the grid with some authority.

The session started very well for Ducati when Jorge Martín and Álex Rins established the first and second positions in Q1, where the current world champion, Fabio Quartararo, suffered a fall that conditioned his contest in the second round. Although he did not stop giving war. Aleix Espargaró also crashed, who was not in Q2.

It was then that the battle for a very close ‘pole’ began that was resolved in the final moments with the leading role of the Japanese Takaaki Nakagami, at the beginning, and the ‘aussie’ Miller, who retained the privilege of the first drawer for more minutes than anyone else. However, it was then that Jorge Martín appeared like an exhalation to keep the candy.

The 24-year-old from Madrid was very satisfied after his ‘pole’ and said that “it is worth two” after having stopped the stopwatch at 2:02.039 ahead of Miller (2:02.042) and Francesco Bagnaia (2: 02.167), registering his name as the new ‘recordman’ of the Austin circuit.

Spaniards Alex Rins and Joan Mir will start from seventh and eighth position, respectively, while Marc Márquez will do ninth. The one from Cervera already explained in the press conference prior to the GP that the objective is “to gain sensations and not win the race”.
