Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan suffer a strong blackout

MADRID, Jan. 25 (Royals Blue) –

Several regions of Uzbekistan, as well as the Kazakh city of Almaty and the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, have suffered a major blackout on Tuesday morning.

“Today, January 25 at 11:00 local time, several regions of the country registered a strong blackout. Technicians are solving the problem,” the Uzbek Ministry of Energy said on its Telegram channel.

The power cut has caused the suspension of metro service in the capital, Tashkent. In addition, the Ministry of Housing and Community Services has warned that there could be cuts in the supply of water and heating.

Likewise, the international airport of the capital has suspended its operations due to problems in the electrical supply.

In Kazakhstan, several districts of Almaty have suffered cuts due to interruptions in the network of the operator KEGOC, as reported by the company itself. However, the supply has been restored hours later, according to the daily ‘Kazakhstanskaya Pravda’.

In the Kyrgyz capital there has also been a failure in the electrical network around 12:20, a blackout that has spread to other cities. Kyrgyz media suggest that the failure would have occurred on Kazakh soil due to an overload.

The country’s energy ministry has said it is trying to identify the cause of the power grid failure. According to KEGOC, the severe blackout is due to the overload of the transit line in Kazakhstan.
