Mediatek to unveil next week chipset that will compete with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Mediatek’s new flagship will have a GPU more powerful than Apple’s A16 Bionic, the chipset found in next-generation iPhones.

Revealed by popular rumor source Ice Universe, the Dimensity 9200 chipset scores a record 1.2 million+ points in Antutu benchmark, lifted especially by the much-improved graphics accelerator. Thus, the Mali-G715 MC11 GPU core manages to generate 328 fps in the Manhattan ES 3.0 1080p offscreen test and 228 fps in the test, Manhattan ES 3.1 1080p. The results are comparable to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 alternative and remarkably superior to Apple’s 16 Bionic chipset found on the current generation iPhone 14.

However, before we get too excited, it must be said that the performance on the CPU side is far better than that achieved with the current generation of Android chipsets. Thus, we’re dealing with a three-cluster CPU architecture, with one high-performance Cortex-X3 CPU core at 3.05GHz, three Cortex-A715 cores at 2.85GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores at 2.0GHz, optimised to run background tasks as efficiently as possible.

While Qualcomm will unveil its next chipset for flagship phones between November 15 and 17, Mediatek will take the lead a week earlier.

While we won’t encounter the new Dimensity 9200 in phones like the Galaxy S23, it will certainly make an appearance in many other flagship killer phones, so a very competitive performance level can only be good news for Android fans.
