U.S. approves new arms delivery to Ukraine worth 675 million euros

U.S. President Joe Biden has approved an additional package to deliver weapons to Ukraine worth 675 million euros, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced Thursday at a meeting of defense ministers at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

“Yesterday, the (U.S.) president approved the latest tranche of U.S. aid to Ukraine in the amount of $675 million. This is the Administration’s 20th arms delivery to Ukraine since August,” Austin noted, detailing that the delivery includes artillery shells, armored vehicles and small arms, among others.

“We are here to renew our commitment and intensify our momentum in providing long-term support to the brave defenders of Ukraine,” he said, before stressing that “Ukraine’s Armed Forces have inspired the world with their determination to defend their democracy.”

Thus, Austin denounced the “atrocious war” unleashed by Russia and stressed that the “unprecedented” aid delivered to Kiev “has helped Ukraine to fight against Russian aggression and has even enabled Ukraine to resist the offensive.”

“The war is at a key moment,” said the U.S. defense secretary, who called on the contact group to “position itself to support the brave Ukrainian defenders, which means continuing in a determined way with the flow of capabilities” in the long term.
