Paraguayan prosecutors search former Interior Minister’s home for ties to drug trafficker

The Paraguayan Prosecutor’s Office has carried out this Tuesday a search in the house of former Interior Minister Arnaldo Giuzzio, dismissed in February, after considering that at this point it is “evident” his link with a Brazilian drug trafficker, Marcus Vinicius Espíndola.

Following Vinicius’ arrest, Giuzzio acknowledged that his company had contacted the Interior Ministry to offer them his services and had also rented a vehicle to another of the drug trafficker’s companies.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested the indictment of the former minister for aggravated passive bribery, although prosecutor Osmar Legal, who led the search on Tuesday, explained to the media that for now he does not see the need for pre-trial detention, according to ‘ABC Color’.

Legal has explained that the investigation into everything surrounding this case is still in an “incipient” phase. The authorities have seized documents and electronic devices to try to advance in these investigations, in which the Paraguayan and Brazilian prosecutors are collaborating.
