Castillo approves program to expel “all foreigners” who commit crimes in Peru

Peruvian President Pedro Castillo has ordered this Friday the country’s Interior Ministry to initiate a program to expel all foreigners who commit crimes from Peru.

“I have ordered to initiate through the Peruvian Interior Ministry the program ‘Return to your country’ to expel all foreigners who commit crimes in Peru,” the Peruvian president said in a message on his Twitter account.

With this measure, Castillo intends to give “a frontal fight against crime”, claiming that “it cannot be allowed to continue hurting Peruvian families, who deserve a quiet life, in peace and with freedom”.

The announcement comes several days after the Peruvian Prime Minister, Anibal Torres, announced the intention of the Executive to present a bill to increase the causes for expelling foreign citizens from Peruvian territory.

Specifically, these new conditions would include causes such as non-compliance with the measures imposed for the containment of COVID-19, or non-residents in Peru being found with unauthorized firearms, drugs or narcotics.
