The Government of Ethiopia is ready for dialogue with the TPLF “anytime, anywhere”.

The Government of Ethiopia is ready for dialogue with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) “anytime, anywhere”, to end the confrontation between the two sides that broke out in November 2020.

Redwan Husein, National Security Advisor to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, has stated that the government “is ready to hold talks anytime and anywhere” and that “talks should start without preconditions”, as reported by the Ethiopian daily ‘Addis Standard’.

“The African Union (AU) is leading the process and can request logistical support from any source,” Husein has explained, adding that the government has also allowed diplomats from the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and the UN to travel to Tigray.

A TPLF spokesman announced on July 18 the appointment of a delegation of representatives to negotiate a peace agreement with the Ethiopian government.

The TPLF thus responded to the Ethiopian Government’s announcement of the appointment of a seven-member delegation to negotiate with the rebel group which has already begun work.

The government delegation is led by Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen and is said to have begun work last week.

The Tigray region is in practice isolated by military forces, making it impossible to send medicines and other humanitarian aid for a population that is on the brink of famine as a result of the clash between the Army and the TPLF that broke out in November 2020.
