  1. Eric Stoltz war ursprünglich Marty: Eric Stoltz was first cast in the role of Marty McFly and filmed for several weeks before being replaced by Michael J. Fox as producers felt that Stoltz did not have the right “comedic timing” for the role .
  2. The DeLorean was not the first choice: Originally the time machine was supposed to be a refrigerator-like device. However, this was changed to prevent children from locking themselves in refrigerators, leading to the iconic decision to use a DeLorean DMC-12.
  3. Ronald Reagan quote: The then US President Ronald Reagan was so amused by the line “Ronald Reagan? The actor?!” from the first film that he quoted in his 1986 “State of the Union” address.
  4. A real scientist as inspiration: The character of Doc Brown was partly inspired by Albert Einstein and the eccentric inventor Nikola Tesla.
  5. Hoverboards became real: The hoverboards introduced in the second film sparked a huge wave of interest, and although they were pure fiction at the time, they inspired the development of real-world hoverboard technologies in the decades that followed.
