VIDEO Jennifer Lopez steps out of her artistic comfort zone: what role she’ll play in Netflix’s The Mother

Jennifer Lopez is changing gears and taking on an action role in the upcoming Netflix movie, The Mother.

Specifically, we’ll see her in an assassin role. The film also stars Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci and Gael Garcia Bernal.

Over the years, Jennifer Lopez has gained appreciation as a performer, and her acting performance was beautifully shaped this in Selena (1997). Since then, the artist has tackled a variety of genres, but never really “jumped the burner”.

The trailer for The Mother was released as part of TUDUM, the online event for Netflix fans, held by the giant to promote its upcoming films and series. The plot puts the spotlight on the assassin played by Jennifer Lopez, fresh out of hiding to protect the daughter she gave up on years ago.

The Mother, a career breakthrough for Jennifer Lopez: how well she’ll handle the challenge

The niche is relatively new for the actress, although she has previously played a wide variety of roles, but has never “properly” entered the action movie arena, as mentioned earlier, incidentally.

At 53, the star seems to be following in the footsteps of actors like Charlize Theron and Liam Neeson. Both of them began taking on action films at some point and now devote themselves to them.

Jennifer Lopez has never shied away from testing her versatility as a performer, but has been somewhat complacent on the set. Having tackled thrillers, romantic comedies and dramas, she seems almost ready to excel in action – or so she implies.

In case you’re curious to see just how well Lopez does in a role atypical for her, know that you’ll get that chance in May 2023, when The Mother officially drops on Netflix.
