Ukraine puts number of Ukrainian civilians killed since start of war at 7,000

Ukrainian Deputy Interior Minister Yevhenii Yenin on Friday put the number of Ukrainian civilians killed and 5,500 wounded as a result of attacks by Russian troops on Ukrainian soil at more than 7,000.

“More than 24,000 civilian objects have been hit by Russian shelling (…). And the number of civilians who have died during this war already exceeds 7,000 people, while another 5,500 civilians have been wounded,” Yenin said during an interview with the Ukrainian Unian news agency.

The deputy minister stressed that Russia’s shelling of buildings where civilians are located claims many lives, while detailing that Russian troops have reportedly carried out 22,000 shellings since the war began on February 24.
