The missile that has been intercepted by the air defense system in Kiev was headed to the Ministry of Defense
MADRID, 3 (EUROPE PRESS)
The Ukrainian authorities have warned this Wednesday of a series of new missile launches towards the capital, Kiev, by the Russian Army, although they have later clarified that the projectile has been shot down in the air.
At first, the State Administration of the City of Kiev has denounced that a Russian air attack had hit the South Railway Station of the capital, “where thousands of Ukrainian women and children are being evacuated.”
It has since been reported that the southern railway station in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, has been damaged in an airstrike and “thousands of civilians” have had to be evacuated from the building.
According to sources in the Ukrainian daily ‘Pravda’, the target of the Russian missile attack was the Defense Ministry or the Ground Forces Command. The missile has been shot down by the air defense system and its remains have fallen near the Southern Railway Station.
“Russian terrorists have launched an airstrike on the southern Kiev railway station, where thousands of Ukrainian women and children are being evacuated,” the Ukrzaliznitsia railway company said in a statement on Telegram.
“The projectile has hit near the Ibis Hotel, the station building has resisted and has suffered minor damage. Information about the victims is being clarified. The trains continue to operate,” he added.
Before knowing this information, the advisor to the Ministry of the Interior, Anton Gerashchenko, clarified that the missile had been intercepted in the air, so the damage caused to the station would have been due to the remains of the rocket.
Gerashchenko has also warned that the projectile had hit a main heating supply pipe in Kiev, although later he also clarified that the damage is not definitive and will be repaired this Thursday.
