I replace my fitness studio visits to a smart home gym for a month. Is that worth it?
I actually like to go to the gym, but there are still days when I find it difficult to leave the house. In this case, I would like to have everything I need for training at home.
And it is precisely this wish that a so -called “smart home gym” could meet. The Gym Monster 2 from Speediance should deliver this. A single space -saving device for your own four walls, with which over 600 exercises with weights between 3.5 and 100 kilograms are possible.
I got the Gym Monster 2 available for testing and do the self -test: 30 days of smart home gym instead of the gym. Here I share my impression of the first training sessions with you.

What is the Speediance Gym Monster 2 and how does it work?
This device is an electronic “gym” for your own four walls.
The device has a large touchscreenvia the training instructions or metrics. There is also a speaker that you can listen to training instructions and music.
There are some songs that are already stored on it, but if you want to listen to your own music, you inevitably have to rely on Apple Music. Other music streaming services are not available.
The design of the Gym Monster 2 is really well thought out. In the middle you can see the device in the folded condition and on the right the locking system for different handles and accessories.
The training resistance is not generated via real weight plates, but via electromagets. You can choose between 3.5 and 100 kilograms in 0.5 kilogram steps. The training ropes can be placed directly below you at ten different height levels at the front or at one point.
- Various handles, rods, ropes and other training accessories can be attached to the ropes.
- Alternatively, you can attach your own equipment with a carabiner. A lot of different exercises are therefore possible.
- Intensive cardio training is even possible with a separately available rowing bench.
On the left I am rowing and on the right you can see the included accessories. This enables countless exercises.
A really useful function is a small supplied Bluetooth ring. You can change the weight with a rotary wheel and deactivate the resistance at the push of a button. This makes it possible, for example, to carry out bench press until muscle creation without a training partner.
Pressure on the button is enough and the barbell weighs almost nothing.
The Bluetooth ring allows intensively without training without training partners.
When you are ready with the training, the base plate can simply be folded up. So the device hardly uses any space.
By the way: membership or subscription is not necessary. All functions are available directly.
Unboxing and furnishings are simple as long as you are not alone
Actually, the furnishings of the Gym Monster 2 are extremely simple – actually.
The device does not have to be built up. You just have to bring the box to your apartment, unpack it and connect it with a single power cable.
As long as you are not alone, as I was, the “structure” of the device is practically on my own. I live on the first floor and the “package” came in two large packages with a total weight of 170 kilograms.
Lugging the package alone was probably heavier than anything I have ever done. Once on the first floor, the transport was very simple because the device has two roles.
I couldn’t pull it up with the box because I couldn’t grab anywhere. So I unpacked it and used the padding as “sled”. Then I packed the device and pulled the stairs up.
In the apartment you have to simply connect the Gym Monster 2 to a socket and then connect to your WLAN network. Then it can start.
What can be trained on it?
In fact, with the Gym Monster 2 you can complete extensive full -body training. When I switched on the device for the first time, over 540 different training programs were available. After about a week it is now over 600. So it is very gratifying that it is still continuously working on new offers.
So far I have been limited to free dumbbell training and endurance training with the rowing bench.
- I particularly liked the dynamic weight adjustment. Among other things, you can set that the resistance in the eccentric phase, when lowering the weight, is higher, since you are typically stronger in this. This can have a positive effect on muscle building.
- There is also a partner program in which the last repetitions are supported as if you had a partner who helps or who helps.
- Repetitions are counted and the range of movements is shown graphically.
- Among other things, videos that simulate the rowing on a river are played with cardio rugs. You are accompanied by the voice of a trainer.
This is only a small cut out of the exercises that are possible with the Gym Monster 2.
I really like training with the Bluetooth ring. It is certainly possible to carry out every exercise until muscle creation – and without a training partner. It is not even necessary to get up to adjust the weight if, for example, you are lying on the dumbbell bench.
The resistance via the electromagnet feels natural and fluently. I am very surprised. I also find it very useful to be able to train the legs with high weights at home without a barbell and weight panes.
Who could such a device be suitable for?
That is the most important question of everyone. Is it really worth spending around 3,000 euros for such a device? On the one hand, the costs could put into perspective if you save yourself a long -term membership in a gym.
- On the other hand, a few adjustable dumbbells and a dumbbell bench costs significantly less, even more space -saving and countless exercises are still possible.
- From a very minimalist point of view, no training equipment is necessary if you want to or can limit yourself to body weight exercises.
I think the Gym Monster 2 is particularly interesting for those who want to train intensely at home. The weight goes up to 100 kilograms and it can certainly be trained without a training partner. Furthermore, this device offers you some training options for which either separate equipment is necessary or another person (including cross -lifting with a barbell or assisted bench press).
In addition, the device is well suited for beginners because the instructions are easy to understand and training is safer than with free dumbbells. Body weight exercises are not always a suitable alternative and strongly dependent on the state of health and fitness.
I can well imagine that the device is a good investment if you are a personal trainer yourself and you are looking for an all-in-one device for your clients.
